Senior high school me in Any Such Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My title is Jessica Frey (informally known as J Frey) and I am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I grew up in Hollister, a tiny farm town in Northern Ca who has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a big public senior school with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to learn theatre. My hope is that through sharing my experiences that are own I will give you some advice and help you feel at ease once you approach the college admission process.

Many of you readers is going to be signing up to college before very long, and I also desire to make sure you know this really is going to be all about you. It might feel a little weird and selfish for anybody whom are constantly placing other’s needs before your own personal. But in order you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.

I do not know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It’s cool to wear pants that are red? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I was eyeing at the mall weekend that is last. All the other kids within my class are using to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. shmoop essay paper My counselor claims I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus class? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. These were all genuine thoughts I’d since well as many others throughout that anxious and stressful fall semester of senior year.

Although it is very simple (and sometimes a very important thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college procedure must be one where you let your very own thoughts and ideas navigate the options. Listed here are three fundamental principles I believe every high school pupil should retain in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many individuals form opinions about different universities and colleges, however you should really focus on your ideas associated with the educational schools plus the information you find as you research the universities that interest you. It is important because they offer something that you want in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation that you are interested in a college.

Think about what you want in a college experience, and accordingly apply to schools. It is now time for you really to think about just what a college campus should have to allow one to be a pleased and thriving student. Are you wanting to attend school in a large city or a rural university town? Do you want to study abroad in a country that is particular? What kind of activities do you wish to pursue outside the classroom? Would you like to have the chance working closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the college prior to your discovery. Maybe it’s a place where you may have an enjoyable college experience.

Enjoy the search process! The procedure of making your university list can be a daunting task, but it is also an enjoyable experience. This is your chance to learn just as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the country. This is your time to explore the wide array of options and look closely at the colleges you’re considering.

I don’t write this website to inform you should not listen to your moms and dads, counselors, or peers. You might have resources that are wonderful your disposal that provide great advice and insight. Counselors know about many different colleges that can be able to let you know more about the ones that meet your criteria. Your parents is able to help determine which schools will be at your fingertips financially. You simply have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with everything you want in an university experience.

That being said, we did buy and totally rocked the red jeans. We’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the college, but during the end of the that didn’t matter day. It didn’t make me feel better about myself and it was quite really a waste of time and money. But used to do follow my heart and became a theater major rather than an engineer, and I’m therefore happy I did. More on that later.
